Local elections turnout low as of 1 p.m., – Central Election Commission

An extra low turnout is reported in the second round of the local elections in Ukraine.

Head of the Central Election Commission Mykhailo Okhendovskyi said at a briefing in Kyiv at 1 p.m., Censor.NET reports.

"In general, the situation is completely calm. There are no grounds for concern for the Central Election Commission about voting in certain places. The only thing that bothers us is of course the ultra-low voter turnout that we have at the moment," he said.

"If the trend continues, it is likely that the turnout will be somewhere around 30%. Then, in my opinion, our legislators should question the feasibility of the principle of absolute majority used at mayoral elections in major cities," the official said.
