NSDC Secretary Turchynov says Ukrainian weapons should beat foreign analogues

Instructors from KORD special force unit and National Guard spetsnaz officers have selected the best models of the Ukrainian-made weapons for their units.

This was announced by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Turchynov at a briefing after examining and testing new weaponry demonstrated at the National Guard training ground in Novi Petrivtsi, Censor.NET reports referring to NSDC press service.

According to him, now that KORD and National Guard special task units are being created, "it is extremely important that the guys, who will first undergo a rigorous selection and complex vocational training, should be armed with modern and effective weapons."

Turchynov notes that Ukrainian manufacturers are able to provide the newly created units with weapons "which should not be worse than the models produced by world's leading gunsmiths." "We need to view the weapons not only as a means for combat missions but also as a way to enhance the prestige of our country and strengthen its economic potential. Arms industry is always connected with running enterprises, jobs, personal and state income," the secretary said, adding that the use of the Ukrainian weapons by soldiers inside the country will be their best advertisement and a serious push for promoting exports.

"This is how we should approach the issue of arming our units. The main requirement for the weapons - they should not be worse than their foreign analogues, but preferably excel them," Turchynov resumed.
