$300 mln in military aid for Ukraine included in new Pentagon budget

The updated bill of the House of Representatives on defense budget for 2016 still includes a military aid for Ukraine in the amount of $300 mln.

As reported by Censor.NET referring to Ukrinform, the vote took place on Friday, Nov. 6.

The new draft law, which at the request of the White House provides for the cuts in the budget for country's defense needs, was passed in the lower house of the U.S. Congress by an overwhelming majority of 370 votes against 58. In particular, the latest version of the document stipulates for reducing the Pentagon budget by $5 bln.

Meanwhile, the item providing for the military assistance to Ukraine remained unchanged. In particular, it establishes the right of the head of the Pentagon along with the U.S. Secretary of State to use $300 mln to render assistance in the fields of defense and security, including lethal and non-lethal weaponry, training of Ukrainian troops, intelligence.

According to the procedure, such a bill is to be approved by the U.S. Senate and re-sent to the president for signature.
