Armored glass averted three shots fired by sniper at Shokin’s office, - Chief Military Prosecutor Matios

Chief Military Prosecutor, Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Anatolii Matios said that a sniper had attempted to assassinate Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin Monday night. The official was saved by the bulletproof window.

Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"Being at the workplace, the Prosecutor General as well as the people, employees who were at that table during the meeting, came under fire of a sniper at 9:52 p.m. Three shots were fired," Anatolii Matios said at a press conference that was held at the office of the Prosecutor General Tuesday.

According to him, criminal proceedings have been immediately opened. The operational investigations group is working at the scene.

"The investigators have reliably established that the shooter and his paymaster knew about the location of furniture and other objects as well as the location of the Prosecutor General, for the shots were virtually fired at pointblank range and were expected to hit the torso or head. There were several shots fired and only the armored glass has actually made it possible to avoid lethal consequences," Matios said.
