Newly appointed head of SBU in Cherkasy region involved in attack on Censor.NET – Butusov

Oleh Boiko, appointed head of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Cherkasy region by president Poroshenko, should be dismissed from the SBU according to the law on lustration.

Censor.NET Chief Editor Yurii Butusov wrote in his blog.

He reminded that Boiko was chief of the M Department which controlled the activity of the media during the Yannukovych times. When Revolution of Dignity started, he was part of the anti-terrorist operation in the streets of Kyiv against the protesters. In particular, he was listed responsible for the shutdown of a number of leading media.

"Therefore, Boiko was involved in an
unprecedented cynic attack on the editorial of Censor.NET on Dec. 9, 2013, and abduction of the servers of the website conducted without a court order or any other documents by a group of unidentified armed men in masks. A joint task force of the SBU and the FSB was dealing with Internet media in Ukraine at that time. Censor.NET survived only by miracle," Butusov wrote.

He also noted that after the revolution the SBU brought the servers back to the office without any documents.
