Council of Europe takes favorable view of local elections in Ukraine

The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe considers the process of voting at the local elections in Ukraine Oct. 25 to be well-organized.

She said that the voting day was generally calm and the voting went well, with the exception of some deviations from the rules.

At the same time, Mosler-Tornstrom added that the territorial election commissions were also well organized. However, according to her, the problem of current elections was the fact that the law on local elections had been adopted just before they took place and was quite complex.

According to the representative of the Congress, the law may cause some problems in the vote count.

As previously reported, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE ODIHR) said that local elections in Ukraine were held in accordance with international standards.
