The main purpose of the Minsk peace process on deescalation of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine, agreed upon by the Normandy Four, is Ukraine's regaining of control over the border in the Donbas. This was stated by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and further cited by Ukraine's ambassador to Germany Andrij Melnyk in his Twitter, Censor.NET reports.
"Chancellor Angela Merkel: the main purpose of the Minsk peace process is Ukraine's restoration of control over the border in the east," he wrote.
In addition, he said Merkel spotlighted "tremendous efforts by Ukraine taken to implement the Minsk agreements" and promised that Germany would continue to actively assist Ukraine in future.
