 Ukrainian Defense Ministry publishes Ilovaisk report; no explanation why Chief of General Staff Muzhenko left the army for parade

Defense Ministry of Ukraine has published a report titled "Analysis of combat activities near Ilovaisk after Russian troops' invasion on Aug. 24-29" on its official website.

This is reported by Censor.NET citing the Defense Ministry's official website.

The introductory part of the report praises the Ukrainian army in their efforts to repulse the aggressor's invasion.

Part 1 describes dislocation of the Ukrainian troops as well as illegal armed gangs in the territory of Donbas as of Aug. 24, 2014. Part 2 gives the chronology of the events, which were followed by the encirclement of the Ukrainian troops in Ilovaisk and resulted in grave casualties to the army.

The report is enriched with evidence by participants of the mentioned combat activities.

The implications of the report read that the events near Ilovaisk caused losses to the enemy, stabilized the front line and prevented illegal armed gangs from advancement ino the Ukrainian territory.

"Criminal execution of the Ukrainian troops convoys who were leaving Ilovaisk has demonstrated the terrorist nature of the Russian Federation, which is a lesson for future," the report concludes.

At the same time, the document does not say a word about why the Chief of General Staff Viktor Muzhenko left the Army before Aug. 24 in order to participate in the Independence Day parade. The events took place in his absence, as well as absence of many professional units of the Army, which has left volunteer units without proper command and support, leading to the Ilovaisk tragedy.
