Ukrainian fighters share memories year after fierce battles for Donetsk airport. VIDEO

A year ago, Ukrainian army fought against Russia-backed separatists for control over the Donetsk airport new terminal.

As reported by Censor.NET referring to Espresso TV, it was October last year when the contradiction reached its climax. Our soldiers controlled terminal's first floor, having organized all-round defense and fighting off the constant attacks by Russian soldiers and mercenaries.

The so-called "death road," connecting the base at the village of Pisky and the terminal, was the only way out. It was used to bring food, ammunition and reinforcement to airport's defenders as well as to take away injured and killed. According to APC driver Vitalii Bezditko, who used to affront death several times a day, the key objective was to get through under the intense fire delivered by militants all the way through from Pisky to the terminal: "You either got their or got killed."
