Concentration of contaminants in Kyiv's atmosphere above normal. Working hours may be postponed, - State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service

The hazardous substances concentration in Kyiv’s atmosphere increased in the morning due to the smoldering peatlands.

Head of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service in Kyiv Oleh Ruban said, Censor.NET reports citing 112 Ukraine TV channel.

"We have been conducting laboratory investigations for four days and we actually observe the increase in the maximum acceptable concentration of harmful substances in the air in the morning, namely sulfur dioxide. We recorded that the concentration of contaminants was slightly over the limit (1.2 - 1.4 times) in the Desnianskyi, Obolon, Sviatoshyn, Solomianskyi, and part of Darnytsia districts of Kyiv between 4 and 8 a.m. in particular.

"Therefore, we advice the residents who are primarily located near seats of fire to evade smoke-blanketed streets and stay inside in the morning, during formation of the so-called smog," Ruban said.

The State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service recommends drinking more water or milk as well as take dairy products as a preventive measure.

"We see the typical London-style smog now, in the autumn, which is formed here in the morning. We advise taking natural sorbents as a preventive measure, namely drinking water, milk and taking dairy products. And if the weather conditions remain unchanged, we recommend the city authorities to postpone the beginning of the working day. The hazardous substances level returns to limits at 10 - 11 a.m. The radiation background level is safe," he said.
