 PGO and SBU detained former Berkut company commander suspected of involvement in crimes against Euromaidan activists

The Prosecutor General's Office and the Security Service of Ukraine have detained the former company commander of Berkut riot police on suspicion of involvement in crimes against Euromaidan participants in February 2014.

Censor.NET reports citing the statement by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.

"October 15, 2015, the Special Investigations Directorate of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine in conjunction with the Security Service of Ukraine have detained the former commander of one of the regional Berkut police special task force detachments, who was served notice of suspicion of organization of abuse of power by his subordinates during the events of February 18, 2014 on Hrushevskyi Street and Kriposnyi Lane in Kyiv as well as the commission of crimes against the protesters, which entailed grave consequences (Part 3 of the Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the agency told.

The prosecutor filed a petition to the court to choose the pre-trial restriction to the suspect remanding him in custody Oct, 16.

The pre-trial investigation is underway.
