New Ukrainian army to meet NATO standards while boasting enormous military experience under belt, - Poroshenko

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the leadership of the country would continue to reform Ukraine's Armed Forces in accordance with NATO standards.

Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"Together, we will finish reforming and creating a new Ukrainian army, the army, which on the one hand meets NATO standards, and on the other hand - wields huge combat experience achieved in the battles with the Russian aggressor," the president said at a meeting with ATO forces middle-ranking commanders on the eve of Ukraine's Defender Day.

Poroshenko stressed that Ukraine's partner-states military instructors, sent to the country to raise its army's combat capability, also receive invaluable experience gained by Ukrainian soldiers during the hostilities: "they come here to adopt combat experience."

As reported earlier, the head of state said the reforms in the Ukrainian army should be continued. "My political will, as the supreme commander, is that middle-ranking commanders keep taking senior positions at the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff after partaking in combat missions at the front. I am proud there are no "parade" generals left at the Defense Ministry and the General Staff," Poroshenko said.

According to him, the army is still facing a lot of problems today that need to be urgently addressed. "I emphasize, if we compare what we have today to what we had yesterday, I am the first among those discontented. I will strongly insist on the continuation of army's reform," the president stated.
