"Today at 10:00 a.m., Gazprom started gas supply to Ukraine. A prepayment in the amount of $234 mln of the due $500 mln in October has been received from Naftohaz Ukrainy," the statement reads.
According to the statement, Ukraine has applied for the maximum daily supply under the contract - 114 mln cubic meters.
As previously reported, as a result of the tripartite talks on Sept. 25 in Brussels (Belgium) among Ukraine, Russia, and the European Commission, the price of Russian gas for Ukraine for the period from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, 2015 was agreed at $227.36 per thousand cubic meters (assuming basic gas value).
On the same day, Gazprom informed Naftohaz it would not apply "take-or-pay" principle, stipulated by the contract with Naftohaz Ukrainy on gas supplies to Ukraine dated Jan. 19, 2009, from Oct. 2015 to March 31, 2016.
As reported earlier, July 1, Naftohaz Ukrainy decided to stop buying gas from Gazprom until new agreements were reached.
