 Poroshenko signs law setting Feb. 20, 2014 as starting point of Russia's occupation

The president has signed a law that defines Feb. 20, 2014 as the starting date of Russia's temporary occupation of Ukraine.

Censor.NET reports citing presidential website. The president of Ukraine has signed the law on amendments to some laws of Ukraine concerning the definition of the starting date of the temporary occupation No. 685-VIII of Sept. 15, 2015. The law stipulates that the starting date of the temporary occupation is Feb. 20, 2014.

The law amends the laws of Ukraine on ensuring the rights and freedoms of citizens and legal regime in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine and on the establishment of the free economic zone "Crimea" and the special character of the economic activity in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine in order to specify the date of the beginning of the occupation, resolve collisions and contradictions on this issue and comply with the rules of international law in order to protect the rights of the state, citizens and legal entities.
