Having noted there were several regions that didn't register "opposition" parties, Poroshenko stated: "The right of political forces to take part in elections must be reliably protected, inter alia, by the president."
According to Poroshenko, this is for the first time when such a great number of international observers, inter alia, from the PACE, the OSCE, and the European Parliament will be present at Ukraine's local elections. The president instructed heads of regional state administrations to establish efficient interaction with international observers and ensure prompt response of the government and law enforcement agencies to observers' requests.
"Each of you will be assessed by voters. I understand your excitement. It is natural. But political competition must be fair and your posts do not give you any advantage in political struggle," the president said. At the same time, Poroshenko doesn't object to participation of governors in local elections. "Moreover, I welcome such initiatives. It is a test for public confidence," he noted.
