 85% of Ukrainians trust new patrol police – Avakov

Only 28 police officers were fired in Kyiv since the new patrol police took up theirs duties at the capital’s streets.

Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov said today during his visit to the city of Chernivtsi, Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the Interior Ministry.

According to the results of a sociological research, only 5% of Ukrainians trusted the old patrol police. This number reached 85% only in two and a half months.

Arsen Avakov also mentioned that only 28 police officers were fired during the abovementioned period. "We expected 10% or 20% of the excluded police officers, but nothing less then this," Avakov added.

Two police officers were fired "on suspicion of improper actions with money." These violations were revealed by the internal monitoring service. The same level of trust is registered in Odesa, Lviv, and Kharkiv, where the new patrol police came into operation as well.

"The same situation or even better will be here," Arsen Avakov said to Chernivtsi residents, commenting a recruitment procedure of the new patrol police in the city.
