 National Guard special force unit to be equipped with top-notch weaponry, - Minister Avakov

Oct. 5, the Interior Ministry starts recruiting trainers for KORD police special force unit.

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov announced today, Oct. 2, at the National Guard training center, Censor.NET reports citing Interior Ministry press service.

The event was attended by Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, Interim Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Lt. Gen. Mykola Balan.

"We continue to create new training centers and shooting grounds across the country. All those willing to enroll will face a challenging competition. A flying squad should be ready to destroy any armed group no matter what weapons they use," Oleksandr Turchynov said.

An operative brigade is created pursuant to the concept of National Guard development. It will be manned with contract officers who have been to ATO area and gained combat experience. The fighters are expected to receive increased salaries of at least UAH 7,000 (about $330).

Ukraine's Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said that KORD fighters can "already go on missions to curb the enemy." They have the best weapons at their disposal. In addition, the unit will be able to use helicopters and aircraft in order to get to a right place the soonest possible.

"We start recruiting trainers for KORD police special force unit on Oct. 5. People with combat experience as well as experience of NATO operations are those mostly needed in KORD's ranks," Arsen Avakov noted.
