This was announced by Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn at a round table, Censor.NET reports referring to Ukrinform.
"Difference in prices allows regional gas and heating administrations to abuse powers. As statistics has it, about 2 billion cubic meters of gas intended for the population are rather likely to have been consumed by industrial enterprises. The gas was purchased at UAH 1,309 (about $61,88) and resold at market prices," Demchyshyn said.
He stressed that due to the difference in prices corruption occurred.
"These funds were used to set up parties, bribe MPs and journalists," the minister said.
According to him, last year, over UAH 110 billion (about $5.2 billion) were allocated to Naftohaz to pay off debts and compensate the difference in tariffs. "If we spend this money on Naftohaz, we do not spend it on other things," Demchyshyn said.
