 Russia's Federation Council approved use of Russian army in Syria

Russia's Federation Council is considering the use of the Russian Armed Forces abroad on Wednesday.

This was announced by Chairman of Russian Federation parliament's upper chamber Valentina Matvienko at the beginning of the meeting, Censor.NET reports citing RIA Novosti.

After that, the senators decided to consider the issue closed to the press.

Later on, Chief of the Presidential Administration of Russia Sergei Ivanov said that the Federation Council unanimously supported the use of the Russian Armed Forces abroad.

According to Ivanov, Putin addressed the Federation Council regarding the Syria issue. The chief of administration emphasized that in this case it is a matter of national interest. He stressed that it regards solely air force operations, ruling out the use of troops on the ground.
