 Berkut riot police ex-commander arrested on suspicion of beating Euromaidan activists on Dec. 1, 2013

The court has remanded in custody former commander of Berkut riot police battalion suspected of beating Euromaidan activists on Bankova Street in Kyiv, Dec. 1, 2013.

As reported by Censor.NET, this is announced by Prosecutor General's Office special investigations department on its Facebook page.

On Sept. 24, the PGO notified former commander of Berkut riot police battalion of suspicion of a crime under Part 3, Article 365 (abuse of power or office) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The suspect is accused of giving an unlawful order to his subordinates to apply physical force and special means against the participants of peaceful protests on Bankova Street, Dec. 1, 2013.

As a result, 26 Euromaidan activists and 19 journalists were injured

The suspect has been remanded in custody.

Investigation is underway.
