Poroshenko props petition seeking to abolish remanding on bail for corruption offences

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has answered to the e-petition No. 22/000215-эп "Cancellation of remanding on bail for corruption offences" posted on the Official Website of the President of Ukraine on Aug. 29, 2015 by citizen V.M. Klymenko.

Censor.NET reports citing president's official website.

Poroshenko's answer reads: "Having considered the petition, I want to announce that I support the proposal to abolish remanding on bail as far as it concerns persons who are suspected or accused of committing serious or extremely serious corruption crimes. It is necessary to legislatively restrict application of bail against those officials suspected or accused of committing corruption crimes. That is why, one of the important tasks of the parliament is to consider bills on the matter in question and work out a compromise on legislative changes aimed to restrict the use of bail by corrupt officials.

"Considering the above, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is offered to adopt a law, having extensively considered all submitted bills, which would settle the issue of applying restrictive measures against persons suspected or accused of committing corruption crimes."
