80 amber miners blocking Warsaw highway have been detained in the Volyn region.

Censor.NET reports citing Volyn region Interior Ministry department press service.

"As a result of a special operation to curb illegal mining of amber on the territory of the Manevytskyi district, the police have detained 80 amber miners. The large majority of them are residents of neighboring regions. All of them have been taken to Manevytskyi district police department for investigative actions. The mining area has been secured by checkpoints guarded by police officers and social activists. During searches conducted within a criminal proceeding, law enforcers seized four vehicles, UAH 200,000 in cash (approx. $9,200), about one kilogram of uncut amber, and mining equipment," the statement notes.

According to local police chief Petro Shpyha, the situation is under control, the territory being guarded by special police units. Search for those involved in illegal mining is underway.
