 US Congress unanimously passed resolution calling for immediate release of Nadiya Savchenko

The U.S. House of Representatives has unanimously endorsed a resolution calling for the release of citizen of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada deputy Nadiya Savchenko Sept. 22.

The resolution also condemns Russia for illegal confinement of Savchenko and expresses its solidarity with the Ukrainian people, Censor.NET reports citing Radio Liberty.

Sponsor of the resolution, head of the group of Ukraine supporters Congressman Sander Levin said after the vote that in captivity, Savchenko was representing the spirit of independent Ukraine free from interference and ready to accept the will of its people as well as pursuit of the rule of law and democracy.

According to the politician's official website, besides Sandy Levin, the resolution was submitted by 36 other members of the Congress.

Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S. Valerii Chalyi stressed that the resolution condemned the illegal confinement of Nadiya Savchenko by the Russian Federation and called for her immediate release. In addition, the document urged the global community embark on a public campaign to bring attention to the plight of Nadiya Savchenko and all other hostages and illegally held persons.
