Strong Ukrainian army should become main factor of peace in Europe, - Turchynov

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov has opened XII International Trade Fair "Arms and Security - 2015."

During his speech, Oleksandr Turchynov said that under continuing aggression of a cruel and powerful enemy against Ukraine, high attention is paid to development of country's military-industrial complex, Censor.NET reports citing council's press service.

"Ukraine's military-industrial complex satisfies the basic needs of our army, the National Guard, and other military formations in arms and military equipment," he stressed. The secretary also said that almost all enterprises of the military-industrial complex have increased their production volumes and boosted quality.

"Our defense industry is producing one of world's best examples of weapons and equipment, as they are being tested in combat and not at stands or training grounds. This is where our military try the weaponry and make proposals in order to improve its quality and combat performance, and defense industry experts put the ideas into practice," he stressed.

Oleksandr Turchynov noted that it is also important to restore positions of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex in the world arms market. In this context, he said, it is necessary to have all restrictions artificially imposed on military-technical cooperation lifted.

"Our strategic partners and leading world politicians have to understand that an enemy, an aggressor should not be urged to peace, it should be stopped. The history has proven that it is futile to appease the enemy. Today, strong Ukrainian army, equipped with modern arms, should become the main guarantee of peace in Europe," Turchynov said.

NSDC secretary also noted that such events as today's will foster implementing this important strategic task. He added that the fair is attended by representatives of the defense authorities of both European and Asian countries, with some 200 defense enterprises of both Ukraine and other countries showcasing their best products.
