"Ukraine needs not lethal weapons now but the opportunities for efficient defense of its territory, protection of the territorial integrity, sovereignty, protection of our independence," he said after a meeting of the National Security and Defense Counsel of Ukraine with the participation of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, which took place in Kyiv on Tuesday, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.
Poroshenko said that Ukraine highly appreciated the assistance of the Alliance as well as the readiness of its Secretary General to deepen practical cooperation with Ukraine.
"Our cooperation with NATO has already yielded actual outcome and has prospects for further development. We have also established mechanisms for exchange of information to date. In addition, 317 Ukrainian soldiers, who received serious injuries, have undergone comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation in the NATO countries. We receive very efficient assistance from our NATO partners in improvement of our defense capability," the head of state stressed.
