Issue of peacekeeping mission in Donbas remains relevant and will be discussed at UN General Assembly, - Poroshenko

Poroshenko admits discussion of the issue of peacekeeping mission introduction in the course of the UN General Assembly in late September.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said during a press availability broadcasted by 112 Ukraine TV channel, Censor.NET reports.

"If we are withdrawing light armament, artillery of caliber under 100 mm, tanks, and mortars so far, the nests operating round the clock to provide efficient implementation of taken commitments should be located there. Therefore, the importance of the peacekeepers remains.

"This issue retains its relevance and I do not exclude that we will hold talks, all our team in New York during the bilateral meetings. Although it is fragile, the current cease-fire gives grounds for cautious optimism that the rest of the Minsk accords will be implemented which will spare of the necessity to introduce the peacekeepers.

"I see the two key components of the Minsk agreements to be implemented: the withdrawal of illegal and foreign troops from the territory of Ukraine and ensuring reliable control over the Ukrainian-Russian border. We are able to deal with and solve all other issues including political, economic, humanitarian, and social ones on our own because it is not some internal conflict - it is Russia's aggression against independent Ukraine," Poroshenko said.
