Terrorists' fake elections "at gunpoint" negate logic of Minsk process, - Rada Speaker Hroisman

Statement of the "Donetsk People's Republic" leader Alexander Zakharchenko of his intent to hold elections on the occupied territory of Ukraine proves that Russian-terrorist troops are attempting to disrupt the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

This was stated by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Speaker Volodymyr Hroisman on his Facebook page, Censor.NET reports.

He stresses that the Minsk agreements have been recognized by the global community as the only efficient mechanism for settling the military conflict and securing peace.

"These fake elections "at gunpoint" negate the logic of the negotiations which has been reached through the Minsk agreements. They might not only exacerbate the military conflict, which has already taken lives of thousands of people and dishoused millions of Ukrainian families, but also push the Donbas into chaos, humanitarian catastrophe, with peace prospects being even more illusive," Hroisman wrote.

It was reported that the "DPR" terrorist leader Zakharchenko had announced fake elections for Oct. 18.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said earlier that Donbas mercenaries' fake elections were a red line, which would be followed by more EU sanctions. According to the president, Russia does not need the mere fact of the Donbas elections. Fake elections are required only to legitimize the illegal occupational authorities.

In his turn, the NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov announced that fake elections planned by the "DPR" and "LPR" were only needed by terrorists to stalemate the situation and impede the peaceful format of returning the occupied Donbas. Turchynov reiterated that Ukraine would not recognize the fake elections in the so-called self-proclaimed Donbas republics.
