NSDC Secretary Turchynov: Elections in Donbas will take place only after Russian forces withdraw

The launch of preparation to fake elections in the occupied territories is a demonstrative retreat of the Russian Federation and its puppets from the peace process outlined by the Minsk agreements.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Turchynov said today, commenting on militants' announcement of the start of "electoral process" in the occupied Donbas, Censor.NET reports citing the NSDC press service.

"Elections in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions may take place only after Russian occupation forces withdraw from these territories, and we restore control over the border, after all seized state bodies and enterprises are freed, and conditions that meet the requirements of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights mission are created," he said.

Turchynov recalled that under the Minsk agreements, elections should be held "only pursuant to Ukraine's legislation and under control of Ukrainian authorities."

"Russia's provocations in the form of elections in the occupied territories just deadlock the situation and clearly demonstrate Kremlin's desire to disrupt the possibility to return the occupied Donbas to Ukraine peacefully," Turchynov resumed.
