Interior Minister Arsen Avakov announced today during his working visit to Kherson, answering journalists' questions regarding the patrol police, Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the Interior Ministry.
According to Kharkiv police head, 82 percent of future police officers in Kharkiv and about 65 percent of ones in Lviv have an academic degree.
"The initial skills of a police officer are very high. We hope that the patrol policemen will be able to pursue a career in the entire police system. That is why we set the age of the applicants between 21 and 35 years. In addition, the system of tests allows us to select the best of them. Thus, we have received more than 6,000 applications for 200 policemen in Ivano-Frankivsk, which is about 30 applicants per one position. On one hand this is a rigorous recruitment and selection process, on the other, it is a guarantee of quality," Arsen Avakov said.
The Minister noted that the current level of skills of the police was high enough. At the same time, 25 out of 2,000 patrol policemen have already retired from the police in Kyiv which operates since July 24.
"You have to realize that it looks quite prestigious: brand new uniforms, cars, but in fact it is a hard daily work," the Minister of Internal Affairs said.
In turn, Head of Patrol Service Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Oleksandr Fatsevych informed that the patrol crews are working around the clock. The number of solved field investigations has increased. People trust patrol police thanks to their skillful actions. The number of citizens calling police has significantly increased as a result.
Adviser to the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Khatia Dekanoidze noted that the level of public confidence in the new patrol police has grown to 85 percent in Kyiv. The survey to determine the level of citizens' confidence in the new patrol police will be conducted in the near future in the cities where the patrol police are already operating.
Answering a question regarding the creation of the National Police of Ukraine Arsen Avakov noted that the officers of the interior Ministry will not become officers of new police by default Nov. 7. All those who wish to serve in the police must undergo requalification.
