Prime Minister of Ukraine Arsenii Yatseniuk stated on Monday, Sept. 14, prior to trainings in case of emergency situation in the power system of the Ukrenergo SE National Power Company, Censor.NET reports.
The prime minister informed that he held a meeting of the energy staff on preparation for the autumn-winter period.
He stressed that this was about the accumulation of coal resources at storages first of all: "The government has allocated 2 billion hryvnia (almost $87 million) and an additional billion hryvnia (over $43 million) from the Energorynok State Company to accumulate coal in storage facilities. These funds were not used. And I place the responsibility for this on the Minister of Energy personally."
Arsenii Yatsenyuk stressed: "The government's instructions should be executed immediately. The basic figures regarding the coal accumulation in storage facilities should comply with the schedule by the end of the month."
"This issue also concerns those state-owned enterprises that generate power and that must ensure the stability and sustainability of the Ukrainian energy system," the prime minister insisted.
Arsenii Yatseniuk has pointed out that he would receive an independent report this week, "what is happening in the energy sector and which further steps to be taken": "I am not just concerned about the situation in the energy sector, especially in the electrical one - I demand the Ministry and state-owned companies to take urgent actions in order to ensure stability of energy supply both to industrial enterproises and citizens of the country."
He has also informed that the actions in case of emergency situation in the power system will be drilled today in Ukrenergo, as the main control facility of the country: "The company has developed a number of energy supply plans, including in case of an emergency."
According to the head of the government, these plans were developed with the support of leading experts sent by the governments of member states of the European Union, Canada, and the United States.
