Peacekeepers from EU and UN needed to settle Donbas conflict, - former President Kuchma

Former President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma believes it is necessary to introduce peacekeeping missions of the European Union and the United Nations Organization to settle the Donbas conflict.

He said this speaking at the 12th annual forum of the Yalta European Strategy (YES), Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.

"The major solution in the future is peacekeeping missions of the UN Security Council or the European Union. Everybody treats this too cautiously... For there are no reasons to hope for the rest, at least I do not have them," Kuchma said.

He also noted that mercenaries inhibit the process of prisoners' exchange by 'all-for-all' principle.

Kuchma also informed that creation of the fifth sub-group within the trilateral contact group on the Donbas conflict settlement (Ukraine - OSCE - Russia) has been brought up many times by the Ukrainian party. However, the Russian party inhibits the creation of this sub-group.
