"We all understand that the country needs new public prosecution just like new judges and new police," the president said.
The Head of State informed that the number of public prosecution officials will be reduced significantly - from 19 thousand to 15 thousand and then to 12 thousand. The number of public prosecution offices will be reduced from 639 to 178.
According to the president, the contest will consist of two stages. The first stage provides for the examination of public prosecution officials. The second stage provides for the examination of lawyers who are willing to become heads of local prosecution offices. Those who will pass the examination successfully will undergo more than two months of training with the best foreign and national experts in the sphere of law.
Petro Poroshenko noted that the examination is absolutely transparent: testing in Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk is controlled by national and international lawyers-observers, NGO representatives. Online broadcast of the process is available as well.

According to Petro Poroshenko, the majority of those who applied for the contest have no working experience in public prosecution. The President believes it will facilitate the efficient struggle against corruption.
The Head of State noted a great number of women among candidates. According to him, the increase in the number of women among heads of public prosecution and other state institutions is an evidence of European approach to the renewal of the government when persons of different sex and religion have equal opportunities.
Poroshenko wished the candidates a successful examination and fruitful work for the benefit of Ukraine.
