Ukrainian Cultural Center activists detained in Simferopol

The activists wanted to lay flowers at Shevchenko monument when they were seized by the police.

This is reported by Censor.NET citing Radio Liberty and Ukrainian Cultural Center's employee Veldar Shukurdzhiiev. "Maksym and Leonid are not relatives, they are just namesakes. They were detained for violating the rules of running events. Although, no events were there, they just came to lay flowers at Shevchenko monument completely independent of each other and were detained," Shukurdzhiiev said.

Russian police in the occupied peninsula give no explanations and comments on this matter. Earlier, pro-Ukrainian social activists in Simferopol intended to hold a rally in honor of the Independence Day. But the self-proclaimed "city administration" has forbidden it.
