The Head of State noted the role of the Afghan Hundred in the events on Maidan. "When somebody was losing hope or yelling emotionally, Oleh Ivanovych had enough wisdom, mental stability and authority to organize and coordinate our actions," the President said.
"His views led him to Maidan. His words didn't contradict his actions. When the aggressor attacked our Homeland, Oleh Ivanovych was at the forefront of the defense. His sworn brothers, as well as the entire Ukraine could count on Oleh Mikhniuk in the course of the Revolution of Dignity and in Aidar Battalion," Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
The President stressed that the given award belongs to Aidar Battalion as well.
Wife of the fallen hero Iryna expressed gratitude to the President for the high award. "The Head of State expressed gratitude in return: "I am grateful to all of you for staying united. The unity is crucial for defending the state and preventing both external and internal attempts to undermine the stability in the country".
The meeting was attended by Aidar Battalion warriors Oleksii Kolbasin, Valentyn Lykholit and Oleksandr Stashko, participant of the Revolution of Dignity, volunteer Oleksandr Bortnyk, ATO participants Ihor Ivzhenko and Pavlo Piatakov, Head of the State Service on the Affairs of Veterans and ATO Participants Artur Derevianko, Chairman of the Ukrainian Association of Afghan Veterans, Advisor to the President, people's deputy of Ukraine Serhii Kunitsyn, First Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Association of Afghan Veterans, participant of the Revolution of Dignity, volunteer Vitalii Krutii, Minister of Defense Stepan Poltorak, Chief of the General Staff Viktor Muzhenko and Deputy Heads of the Presidential Administration Rostyslav Pavlenko and Andriy Taranov.
