 U.S. President Barack Obama congratulated Ukrainians on Independence Day

The United States of America will continue to support Ukraine in a very important period of the nation's history.

U.S. President Barack Obama stated in his congratulation of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the people of Ukraine on the 24th anniversary of independence, Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the President of Ukraine.

"Our two nations work together to uphold and defend the right of the Ukrainian nation to freely choose its own future. While you are working to implement crucial reforms despite the aggression of Russia in the East and the occupation of Crimea, the United States will remain consistent in its support for Ukraine," Obama said.

Obama is confident that friendship between the two countries would be further strengthened as Ukraine would make further efforts to develop democratic institutions, promote the rule of law and pave the way towards the economic growth.

"Over the past year Ukraine has made significant steps to achieve the goal it has set for itself since independence in 1991. Despite numerous challenges, the people of Ukraine approached more than ever the fulfillment of its common vision of free, democratic and prosperous country firmly integrated into the heart of Europe," the President added.
