 Court rules preventive detention for former Kyiv SBU Head Shchioholev suspected of involvement in murder of Euromaidan activists

The Pechersk district court in Kyiv remanded former head of the Security Service of Ukraine of Kyiv and Kyiv region Oleksandr Shchioholev into custody until the trial on suspicion of involvement in the murder of Euromaidan activists.

The lawyer of the victims Pavlo Dykan said, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.

"As far as I know, the court has arrested Shchioholev today," he said.

The law enforcers have detained the former head of the capital's Security Service Aug. 20.

He was placed under house arrest prior to this but the Prosecutor General's Office noticed him of a new suspicion of involvement in the murder of Euromaidan activists.

The lawyer stressed that it was Shchioholev who, as the head of the SBU in Kyiv and Kyiv region, was running the anti-terrorist operation against Euromaidan activists on Maidan Nezalezhnosti February 18-20, 2014.

Earlier, ex-officers of Berkut special police detachment Serhii Zinchenko, Pavlo Abroskin, and their commander Dmytro Sadovnyk were arrested March-April 2014 on suspicion of murder of Euromaidan activists on Instytutska Street in Kyiv on February 20, 2014.
