 Ukrainian troops assist residents of Sartana to cope with consequences of militants’ shelling. PHOTOS

The military leadership of the sector together with other law enforcement agencies has sent military engineers and emergency recovery team to the village to carry out clearing operation immediately after the terrorists’ shelling of Sartana village in the vicinity of Mariupol on Aug. 17.

Censor.NET reports citing the statement of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The report reads: "The Ukrainian troops have also taken active part in clearing of construction debris in areas impacted by mines and shells, repair of damaged buildings and evacuation of local residents to safe places.

"The coordinators of the local group of civil-military co-operation carried out explanatory work among the population over the shelling of the village by the pro-Russian militants in order to prevent the spread of false information.

"The generalship of the sector held an emergency offsite meeting with the mayor of Mariupol and representatives of the security agencies, where they discussed issues of coordinated early warning of citizens on possible attacks by the separatists.

"The territory of the village has been completely inspected for unexploded ordnance. Power supply has been restored, and repair of the residents' premises is underway.

"The International Committee of the Red Cross and the Danish Refugee Council were promptly informed on the incident and they have provided humanitarian assistance to the victims," the Defense Ministry's statement reads.
