Russia, Ukraine, EU to hold next round of gas talks late August, Ukraine’s Energy Minister says

Ukraine is still unable to do without Russian gas during winter peak loads of its energy system so we intend to conclude another "winter package" agreement with Gazprom and prepare for the next round of trilateral gas talks with participation of the EU in Vienna at the end of August.

Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Volodymyr Demchyshyn announced, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"Even with all the efforts being made, the peak loads must be still covered by supplies from Russia. Therefore, we are definitely determined to negotiate with the Russians because the contract for the heating season is crucial and we will sign it," the head of the Ministry of Energy said at a briefing in Kyiv on Monday.

According to him, the prior negotiations showed that the Russian side was also inclined to conclude the new "winter package" contract but the political issues impeded to do this.

"The next round will be held in Vienna late August. I believe that we will gain understanding after all," Demchyshyn said.
