"The battalion task force large terrorists' group supported by 10 tanks, 10 armored personnel carriers, and other equipment launched the offensive on the stronghold of the 72nd Mechanized Brigade situated near the village of Starohnativka after a massive artillery preparation fire at about 3:25 a.m. today, Aug. 10," the report reads.
It is noted that the Minister of Defense and the Chief of General Staff - the Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine immediately informed the President of Ukraine and OSCE representatives after which it was decided to move the Ukrainian artillery to certain positions: "The enemy onslaught was stopped and it was flung 2-3 kilometers back due to the taken measures, determined and skillful actions of soldiers of the 72nd Mechanized Brigade."
"Our detachments have captured key high grounds that were previously controlled by the terrorist groups. The enemy suffered considerable losses in manpower and hardware. Unfortunately, seven Ukrainian soldiers have been wounded during the battle," the Ministry of Defense reported.
"The efforts of the terrorists to disrupt the Minsk agreements and escalate the conflict can be clearly traced at present. In particular, this is evidenced by the attempts to intimidate the representatives of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission. The protests at the mission's offices in Donetsk and Luhansk as well as the arson of the OSCE vehicles are meant. These events took place on the eve of the attack on the Ukrainian position committed by the terrorist," the press-service added.
