 Large-scale abuse of power unveiled in Odesa port, high-rank officials involved

Abuse of power worth billions of hryvnias has been exposed in Odesa Commercial Sea Port state enterprise.

Security Service Central Department has audited the enterprise following an order by the president of Ukraine, Censor.NET reports citing the SBU press service.

"The SBU investigation department in the Odesa region received evidence of abuse of power by officials of Odesa Commercial Sea Port SE, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, the State Property Fund of Ukraine and some private port operators while concluding and implementing state property lease agreements. As established, the actions of certain officials caused more than 1 billion hryvnia (about $46.5 million) loss to the state," the SBU statement reads.

The Security Service also considers other evidence of abuse of power by officials of Odesa and Illichivsk ports and Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority SE.

The SBU stated that during the meeting of the president of Ukraine with the heads of regions and law enforcement leadership on July 8, the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Hrytsak claimed tight connection between smuggling and corruption in the Odesa region as one of the most serious threats to the state security.
