 Poroshenko signs law on road traffic safety envisaging automatic photo and video fixation of administrative offenses and penalty points for their commision

President of Ukraine signed the Law “On Amendments to Several Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Improvement of Regulation of Relations in the Sphere of Ensuring the Road Traffic Safety.” The law provides for several new powers to be granted to the patrol police in the sphere of ensuring the road traffic safety.

Chief of the Patrol Police Department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine Oleksandr Fatsevych sent a letter to the president of Ukraine with a request to consider the possibility of immediate signature of the given draft law.

Oleksandr Fatsevych noted that "the establishment of the patrol police has become a notable reform in the public and the increase of the number of appeals to the patrol police by 60% demonstrates high level of social trust." He also emphasized the necessity of receiving additional achievements by the patrol police for more efficient functioning in the sphere of ensuring the road traffic safety.

The law introduces automatic photo and video fixation of administrative offenses in the sphere of ensuring the road traffic security, which will reduce the number of road accidents. Also, penalty points, a new type of administrative punishment, will be introduced.

Such systems are successfully used in many countries of the world: Germany, Sweden, United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands, France etc.
