 Relapsed thief to witness in Sentsov-Kolchenko trial

Another trial session in the case of Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov and activist Oleksandr Kolchenko, accused of terrorism, started in the military court in Rostov-on-Don, Russia.

There is an ongoing examination of prosecution witness Yaroslav Burakovskiy, who failed to get in touch from prison through organization routine.

As reported, Burakovskiy, who is now imprisoned in Simferopol, had been convicted of theft for several times.

He was identified by the Ukrainian passport and has not received the Russian passport yet.

Consideration of prosecution evidence is to finish on Wednesday.

As reported earlier, film director Sentsov and activist Kolchenko are accused of terrorism. According to Russia's investigation, Sentsov allegedly organized a clandestine group tied to the Ukrainian Right Sector in spring 2014. Kolchenko is charged with participation in this "terrorist organization." The Ukrainians do not accept the charges.

On Thursday, witness Aleksei Chirnii refused to testify, though confirming his previous testimony. On Friday, a witness Gennadiy Afanasiev not only refused to testify, but claimed his previous testimony to be given under duress.

He told his lawyer, who visited him in prison, on Monday that he had slandered Sentsov and Kolchenko under torture, and that he fears his life is currently in danger.
