Savchenko and Sentsov trials to see EU representatives, - Foreign Ministry

High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini announced sending the EU representatives to monitor "trials" against Nadiya Savchenko and Oleh Sentsov.

This is reported by Censor.NET citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs press service. As stated earlier, Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin addressed the EU Foreign Ministers, the heads of G7, and the leadership of international organizations requesting them to send their representatives to "courts" to ensure proper monitoring of "trials" against Nadiya Savchenko, Oleh Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko, who are illegally held in Russia.

Later on, Mogherini sent a letter of response to Klimkin, where she noted that the presence of representatives of the international community at these meetings would ensure transparency of "trials" and be a reminder that the EU expected Russia to confirm it complied with international law. Mogherini also noted that the release of the MP, PACE delegate Savchenko and other citizens of Ukraine illegally held in Russia fully complies with a set of measures under the Minsk agreements.

"The European Union, like the entire international community, is firm in its support of Nadiya Savchenko, Oleh Sentsov and other citizens of Ukraine illegally held in the Russian Federation," the report reads. "We are sincerely grateful to the EU for its support of our initiative and once again call on the Russian Federation to stop tormenting illegally held citizens of Ukraine, who have actually become political prisoners in Russia," the department added.
