Speaking of the exercises, the president noted his confidence in the morale, expertise, and skills of Ukraine's sailors. "I am proud of these Ukrainian soldiers," he said. The president said that three well-equipped battalions and one battery were sent to Mariupol. "The Marines of Ukraine will enhance the protection of Mariupol significantly. This will be our response to the panic that the aggressor tried to spread across the country in relation to the presumable strike from Novoazovsk. We will bolster defenses of Mariupol and Donbas," the head of state said.

Petro Poroshenko emphasized Ukraine's commitment to full compliance with the Minsk agreements. "If the enemy tries to violate them and escalates the conflict, Ukraine will be ready to defend itself," the president said. In particular, Ukraine has 36 Humvee armored vehicles received during the military and technical cooperation that will be used to protect the independence and integrity of Ukraine. The president noted that paratroopers, infantrymen, scouts, special force officers, and marines were undergoing their training at Shyrokyi Lan arms training range. "We have a completely different army today. Ukraine's army is much better equipped and has advanced equipment and weapons. We do our best to ensure the country's defense," the head of state said.

The president also said that the marines gave him a sailor's striped vest as a souvenir.
