"Youtube hosts a video of March 15, 2015 titled "Exercises of the 2nd motorized infantry battalion of people's militia of the "LPR" in Novopavlovsk" from the so-called information-analytical agency "South-East". At 7:02 and 7:36 in this video an upgraded MTLB with "Utes" machine gun can be seen, with the tactical sign of the aforementioned 8th OMSBr (copy in the archive: https://youtu.be/JMfUzCznP74, https://archive.is/ibbCY).
"The video of the exercises also features other Russian military equipment, including airborne infantry fighting vehicles with serial numbers painted over.
"Other interesting photos have been found, including copies of certain documents and comments to them. The most interesting is a "veteran's license" (uploaded May 6, 2015), #0389711, issued by the Russian Defense Ministry on Nov. 24, 2014, signed by the head of personnel of the Southern Military District, Major General S. Panevchik. Also noteworthy is Chainikov's comment that he had recently returned from a "BZ" - a combat mission, and that he could not boast being a veteran before that.
"Another interesting document, uploaded on Nov. 8, 2014, is a report by Chainikov where he requests his next vacation for 2014. From this report, it follows that Chainikov has been a private on the contract (i.e. not a conscript) since Oct. 25 2013, grenadier of the 3rd squad, the 1st platoon, the 3rd company, the 2nd battalion of the unit 16544. His immediate commanders are squad leader staff sergeant V. Agamirzoyev, platoon commander first lieutenant A.Galayev, company commander captain O. Chigasov, battalion commander N.Amirkhanyan.
"In view of the above and the previously extracted information regarding the participation of the 8th brigade in the fighting in the Donbas, we can assume that the Russian military equipment and, in particular, an MTLB from the 8th OMSBr of the Russian Army, is in service with the so-called 2nd infantry battalion of the "LPR" 'people's police', and the Russian contractor from the same brigade, S.Chainikov is a "veteran" of the Russian military adventures in Ukraine," says the investigator.
"The topic of Russian armored vehicles seen in Ukraine is quite well addressed by an investigative blogger "sled-vzayt". One of his latest entries is dedicated exactly to the version of MTLB with large-caliber machine guns - with "Utes" (MTLB BM) and "Cord" (MTLB BMK).
"The 8th OMSBr was noted by us many times in the context of the "Rostov-Ukrainian mission", see related links:
"The material has been collected on the basis of observations by Mikhail Net, who found hardware of 8th OMSBr in the Donbas," the material reads.
