"One year ago today, it was with profound sadness and shock that I learned that a Malaysia Airlines passenger jet en route from the Netherlands to Malaysia had been shot down in Eastern Ukraine, killing all on board, including one Canadian, Andrei Anghel," he wrote.
"Canada continues to support all ongoing investigative efforts by the Dutch Safety Board into the cause of the crash and looks forward to its final report to provide much sought after answers. The perpetrators of the crimes that caused this horrific event must be brought to justice, in order that some peace may be brought to the victims' families," Harper added.
"From the first efforts of the Russian-backed insurgents to obstruct access to the crash site, to Russia's most recent indications that it will oppose any prospect of an international tribunal, Russia's record has been one of blocking the truth. We urge Russia to reverse its course of action and facilitate the justice process," he declared.
"Our Government continues to provide strong support to the people of Ukraine in their efforts to build a stable government and dynamic economy, and to defend their country's sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of ongoing Russian aggression," Stephen Harper concluded.
