Berkut officers trial feels dramatic while examination is under way. PHOTOS

On Wednesday, July 16, the Sviatoshynskyi District Court of Kyiv started examination of complainants within judicial proceeding against two Berkut special police force officers Pavlo Abroskin and Serhii Zinchenko.

This is reported by Censor.NET citing LB.ua.

Today, the court managed to examine four complainants, whose children or relatives died from gunshot wounds in the period between Feb. 18 and 20, 2014, at the Maidan. They were mother of the deceased Eduard Hrynevych, father of Ihor Kostenko, father of Mykola Shymko, and father of Serhii Baidovskyi. The relatives of the victims paused from time to time to calm down and drink water. They all characterized their children as patriots, proud and partial people, who stood up to defend the rights of their compatriots.

During cross-examination, prosecutors asked everyone very similar questions: "Did the deceased have weapons? Did he have an intention or ability to buy it? At what time and where were they during the shooting?"

Complainants' answers were also very similar: "No. There was a wooden shield and a stick (plastic / wooden)."

Berkut officers' lawyers tried to examine each complainant to find out who precisely they addressed their claims to. They also asked the complainants why they were sure the two defendants had killed their children. According to them, even if there were shots, they were not intended to kill.

"Abroskin and Zinchenko were a part of the shooting group. Prosecutor's office is aware of bullets' trajectories. In the Sadovnik's (chief of the Berkut special police force at that time - ed.) group, Sadovnik himself fired eight shots from machine gun, but there were three gunmen. One of them killed my son," father of the killed Ihor Kostenko said.

The lawyers noticed there had been hundreds of people on Instytutska Street (a street close to Maidan Nezalezhnosti square where most of the killings happened - ed.), Alpha and Omega special groups. According to them, it shouldn't be excluded these special officers shot.

"Exactly from Instytutska Street there were no hundreds of people and there were no Alpha and Omega officers," Kostenko said.

The mother of the deceased Maksym required soothing even before the examination, but she also could not hold back her emotions during the process: "I appeal to these guys (Abroskin and Zinchenko). They swore to the people and had to make their choice. They were afraid to be put on trial, and my child was not afraid to give his life. My son is a hero. And your mothers only know that you are involved in murdering so many people. How could you take up arms and start hunting people?"

The complainants believe that the nature of injuries proves the aimed shots were fired at the head and the neck (artery) in order to inflict fatal wounds.

The court adjourned the examination for tomorrow, July 17, at 11:30 a.m., at the Sviatoshynskyi District Court of Kyiv.

As reported before, Abroskin and Zinchenko are accused of fulfilling a criminal order resulting in death of 39 people on the Maidan, abuse of power and misappropriation of service weapons (concealment of crime instrument).
