 Prosecutor of one of Odesa districts detained receiving $5,000 bribe - Prosecutor General's Office

The military prosecutors of the Southern region of Ukraine in conjunction with the officers of the Security Service of Ukraine Directorate in the Odesa region have detained the employee of the prosecutor's office of one of the districts of Odesa during taking a bribe July 10, 2015.

Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.

According to the report, it was established that the law enforcement officer extorted and received a bribe in the amount of $5,000 from a citizen of the U.S. for non-initiation of the criminal proceedings for violation of the safety in operation. The cash was seized in the office of the law enforcer.

The investigation is currently underway. The offender has been detained. The court is considering the issue of imposition of the pre-trial restraint on him.

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin noted that the mentioned detention was conducted as part of a campaign against corruption in the prosecutor's office. According to him, the operation to eradicate corruption in the ranks of the prosecutors will continue.

Earlier, president's press secretary Sviatoslav Tseholko reported that a senior prosecutor of the Suvorov district of Odesa, who was nailed taking a bribe, was arrested.
