 Austrian Parliament ratifies EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. PHOTO

Austria's Federal Assembly, the upper chamber of the parliament, at a meeting on July 8 ratified the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.

Ukraine's Ambassador to Austria Oleksandr Scherba wrote on Twitter, Censor.NET reports.

According to him, Austria's Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz was campaigning to vote for the ratification of this agreement at the parliamentary session before the voting.

"Austria! We've got ratification!" he wrote later.

"The majority fractions voted for. The Freedom Party and Team Stronach against. Now, it's awaiting the signature of the Federal president," he concluded.

The Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union was signed in March 2014. The Association Agreement must be ratified by all signatories - Ukraine and 28 EU member countries, as well as the governing bodies of the EU in order to come into force. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the European Parliament ratified the agreement on Sept. 26, 2014.
