Heads of the General Prosecutor's Office and the Security Service of Ukraine reported to president Poroshenko on special operations to combat corruption in the central office of the PGO and the Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv region, which resulted in the detention of the First Deputy Head of the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office and the Deputy Prosecutor of Kyiv region.

As reported by Censor.NET, this is announced in a message of the head of state press service.

According to the PGO, president Poroshenko praised the work of law enforces and called for decisive actions against corruption in future.

"Prosecutor's "inviolability" is cancelled. Corrupt officials must be brought to justice. I believe that the reformed prosecutor's office, after creation of a special unit to combat corruption among prosecutors, is a very good start," he stressed.

"Now we need to continue decisive actions to eradicate corruption in the higher bodies of state authority," the head of state said.

President underlined he would personally control the investigation of the case.

Acting Prosecutor General - First Deputy Prosecutor General Volodymyr Huzyr said the detention of the above persons had been performed on July 5 morning.

"During the search a lot of questions arose to these persons due to significant, compared to salaries of civil servants, sums of money in local and foreign currency, as well as other questions. They are served a notice of suspicion. The decision on sufficiency of evidence for submission to court and choosing the most strict restraint measure will be taken today," he said.

Head of the SBU Vasyl Hrytsak informed that as a part of the operation the SBU in collaboration with the Prosecutor General's Office conducted a number of investigative actions against corruption among prosecutors. "We took on operational support and support for the investigation group. In the course of investigative actions a significant amount of evidence of criminal activity was seized," the head of the SBU said, noting the sum was astronomical.

"It's nice the PGO itself initiates purge of its ranks. I am convinced that this kind of corrupt officials exist in the ranks of other public bodies. We promised to fight corruption and together with the General Prosecutor's Office will do everything possible to report the results to Ukrainian people," he added.
